Before each programme begins, I work closely with the participating college or university and The Design Museum to develop a tailored live design brief inspired by the current exhibition. This includes understanding the exhibition themes, project objectives and any branding or merchandise opportunities, before producing a professional project brief for students.

I also develop a structured programme plan, prepare learning resources and ensure the content reflects current industry practice. This planning stage ensures every programme delivers an authentic, engaging learning experience that mirrors the professional design process from brief to outcome.

PROGRAMME DELIVERY - Industry Insights & Career Journey + Brief

Industry Insight
The programme begins with an introduction to the creative industries, where students gain an honest insight into my career journey from the music industry to television and graphic design. Through real client projects and professional experiences, students learn about creative career pathways, the structure of design teams and the roles that contribute to successful creative projects.
An interactive discussion encourages students to ask questions about working in the industry, helping them understand the opportunities, challenges and realities of a career in design.

Live Design Brief
Students are introduced to a professional live design brief inspired by a current Design Museum exhibition. Together we explore the project objectives, target audience, creative constraints and key deliverables, just as they would when working with a real client.
The existing exhibition campaign is analysed to understand its strengths, identify opportunities for creative development and encourage students to think critically before beginning their own design concepts.

EXHIBITION VISIT

We spend two hours at the Design Museum, where students are welcomed by a member of The Design Museum and guided around the exhibition. They research and draw inspiration from professional work while connecting it to the brief with my help. This hands-on experience helps them see how design decisions impact real-world exhibitions and marketing.

MID-PROJECT REVIEW - review designs for full class

The students present their initial printed concepts, I provide structured, hands-on design reviews. Each student receives a 5 minute detailed, professional feedback on their poster and merchandise designs, including advice on composition, typography, branding, and print vs digital production.

I guide students through refining their ideas, helping them understand what works in a professional context and why, and how to adapt their concepts to meet client and exhibition requirements. These sessions mirror real-world studio practice, giving students practical work-experience style learning, helping them build portfolio-ready work and develop confidence in presenting and defending their creative decisions.

Question 5

FINAL DESIGN REVIEWS & PROFESSIONAL FEEDBACK

The final review session focuses on students’ final designs, beginning with a group discussion followed by one-to-one feedback. I provide targeted critique and guidance to refine their work to exhibition-quality standards, while coaching students on how to present their designs professionally, just as they would in a creative agency or design studio.

FINAL PRESENTATION & EXHIBTION

Students present their final concepts in a mini exhibition for the Design Museum team, simulating a real client pitch. I support the students in planning the exhibition layout, running through their designs, and meeting the Museum team. The Museum team selects pieces they feel could be used for marketing or merchandise, and the student with the chosen design receives a goody bag as recognition. Throughout, I coach students on professional presentation skills, articulating design decisions, and responding to feedback, giving them invaluable work-experience style learning and exposure to a leading cultural institution.
